4 Reasons Why Your iPhone Isn’t Charging

Your iPhone is dangerously low on juice, or worse—already dead. No matter what you do, you can’t get your iPhone to charge. And, what good is an iPhone without any power?

Why is your iPhone not charging? These four issues may explain your iPhone’s predicament. Read on to get to the bottom of your power problem.

  1. 1. You Have a Bad Cable

The first thing to do with an iPhone that’s not charging is to check the power cable. Your power cable or adapter may be at the end of its life. Charging cords can be damaged even if they aren’t visibly frayed.

What to do: Try charging your iPhone with a different cable. If your device begins to charge, then you know it isn’t damaged. You just had a bad cable! You may need to try other power sources, like another outlet or your computer, if your iPhone doesn’t charge with a different cable.

Is your device still not responding? You may have a software issue or a broken port.

  2. 2. It’s a Software Issue

Your iPhone won’t charge, but it says it’s charging. Don’t worry. Your iPhone isn’t trying to gaslight you; this may be a software issue.

What to do: Restart your iPhone using the sleep/wake button. Performing this soft reset should have your device back to normal. If you’re still having trouble, check your settings to see if you have the latest iOS. With an unresponsive iPhone, you may need to perform a force restart.

Learn how to force restart your iPhone with Apple’s user guide.

Not a bad cable or software issue? Your iPhone may have a dead battery or broken charging port.

  3. 3. Your Battery is Toast

No matter what you do, you can’t get your iPhone to charge. You’ve had it plugged in for a while, but you aren’t getting any results. None of the buttons respond. The screen is blank. Let’s face it. You need a new battery.

What to do: Take your iPhone in for a battery replacement. Most stores, like Elite Device Repair, can replace your iPhone battery the same day you bring it in. Once you’ve replaced the battery, your iPhone will be restored!

Is the battery not the culprit? Your iPhone’s charging port may not be working.

  4. 4. You Need a New Charging Port

You may have a dirty or damaged port if you can’t get your device to charge. Inside your iPhone’s charging port are small metal pieces that connect to your charging cable.

If these pieces are bent or broken, they can keep your device from getting power. Broken anchors may make your charging port loose and prevent your device from attaching to a charging cable.

What to do: To fix a damaged charging port, you’ll have to take your iPhone to the experts. A charging port replacement requires you to dismantle the device, so you won’t want to attempt it yourself. Luckily, this repair can be completed by a professional within one day.

Is your iPhone not charging? Are you ready to get it fixed?

When your iPhone won’t charge, contact or stop by Elite Device Repair. We’ll help you diagnose the problem. If you need a new charging port, we can replace it in about 45 minutes on almost all iPhone models.

My friend told me that her new phone isn't working anymore, and it's not charging either. I find it concerning that this could be a problem with her phone's charging port, which will require a technician's help. I'll suggest that she take her phone to a repair specialist for repairs.
